Munkánkkal párbeszédet szeretnénk kezdeményezni a művészeti dolgozók magyarországi helyzetéről. Inspirációnk az ’Art Work: A National Conversation about Art, Labor and Economics’ elnevezésű projekt, mely globális és helyi problémákat vetett fel, személyes beszámolókat gyűjtött össze a művészeti dolgozók prekárius élethelyzeteiről, jó közösségi művészetfinanszírozási gyakorlatokat és kritikai attitűdöket mutatott be. Tizenkét interjút készítettünk hasonló célokat szem előtt tartva, hogy feltérképezzük a magyarországi szituációt. A magyar művészeti szférát egyszerre érintik a neoliberális kapitalizmus globális hatásai, melyek nyomán egyre több művészeti dolgozó kényszerül arra, hogy prekárius munkakörülményeket válasszon; illetve az átideologizált, átláthatatlan állami finanszírozásból fakadó problémák, melyek miatt számos független művészeti intézmény támogatás nélkül vagy csökkentett támogatással működik, és sokak számára az állami pénzekért való pályázás vállalhatatlan kompromisszumot jelent. A videókhoz csatolt esszében a magyarországi helyzetet e két problémacsoport metszéspontjaként írjuk le, és bemutatunk olyan jó közösségi gyakorlatokat, amelyek a jelenlegi szituációban termékenyek lennének, és egyben adaptálhatók is. Az esszé utolsó részében reflektálunk a magyar művészeti szférából hiányzó szakszervezeti/szindikalista összefogás kérdésére – ezt egy tágabb, a munkásképviselet és szolidaritás hiányosságaiból fakadó, Közép-Európára jellemző probléma részének (is) tekintjük.

The aim of our project is to generate dialogue on the current situation of art workers in Hungary. Our inspiration is the project titled ’Art Work: A National Conversation about Art, Labor and Economics’ that fostered both national and global dialogue, collected personal accounts on the precarious career conditions of art workers, and introduced good communal practices and critical attitudes. We made twelve interviews with the same aim, thus we tried to map the working conditions of art workers in Hungary. The Hungarian cultural scene is hit by two main problems, one being the global phenomenon of neoliberal capitalism, that creates structures in which more and more artists are forced to chose precarious working conditions; and the other problem being the changing governmental system of art funding: the distribution of public funds is biased, the money is chanelled to organizations loyal to the government, therefore more and more independent art institutions and artists are deprived of funding, or they find it too compromising to apply for governmental funding. In the research essay that is part of our project we tried to address the Hungarian situation as the junction of these two problems, and we gathered some good practices that would be both productive and adaptable. In the last part of the paper we dealt with the lack of unionist/syndicalist ideals in the Hungarian cultural sector – we see this phenomenon as part of a greater problem which concerns the lack of workers’ self representation and solidarity in Hungary and in post-transition Central Europe.
